Patricia Ann Powers, 92, of Duncombe, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Marian Home, Fort Dodge.
Patricia ("Pat" or "Patsy") Colwell was born on September 25, 1932, in Ledyard, Iowa to Floyd and Mary Catherine (McCarville) Colwell. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Josephine McCarville after the death of her mother just twelve days after her birth. Pat lived with her grandparents in Moorland during the school year where she attended school until graduating from Moorland High School in 1950. Following her graduation, she attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City. She obtained her nursing degree in 1953 and worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for a few years.
On April 23, 1955, Pat was united in marriage to John B. Powers at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Moorland. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge, until moving to Kanawha. They then moved to Humboldt before returning to Duncombe in 1967 to begin farming at the Powers farm nearby where Pat resided until October of 2024.
Caring for others was Pat's life mission whether it be for her children, extended family, friends, neighbors, or patients. Besides her career of Nursing and raising her children,
Pat was a Hospice Volunteer for 25 years. She served on the Hospice Board, the Marian Home Auxiliary Board and the St. Joseph Catholic Church Board. Pat was a faith-filed woman who considered her friends and neighbors to be additional family. She always took the time to call, write, and even visit family and friends throughout the years in both good times and bad. She never said an unkind word about anyone and graciously accepted all she came across.
Pat's main interests revolved around family and friends. She enjoyed attending sporting events, plays, and concerts. She loved reading, fishing, playing cards, dancing, and mowing the lawn. Although, her children did force her to stop mowing at 90 because she drove too fast!
Pat is survived by her children, Paula (Nick) Weydert of Yankton, SD, Mary Ann (Ken) Doocy of Georgetown, TX, Susan Powers Kane (fiancé Chad Olson) of Webster City, Tom (Eva) Powers of Ames, and Tim (Sarah) Powers of Webster City; sister, Rosemary (Will) Dencklau of Humboldt; sister-in-law, Ann Dopita of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Danielle (Jayme) Schaaf of Clarksville, TN, Kacey (Jason) Suing of Grinnell, IA, Brittany Weydert of Colorado Springs, CO, McKinsey (Jacob) Haider of Tampa, FL, Jill (Collin) Michels of Madison, WI, Shannon (Sam) Schrup of Iowa City, IA, Kate (Bill) Hoedt of Austin, TX, Sam (Rachel) Doocy of Blaine, MN, Kristine (Ross) Berglund of Webster City, IA, Ashton Boles of Ankeny, IA, Rachel (Cameron) Griffith of Ankeny, IA, Mason (Jessica) Powers of West Des Moines, IA, Elise Powers of Denver, CO, Tate (Justin) Skartvedt of Ames, IA, Hank Powers of Ames, IA; great-grandchildren, Jami, Kennedy, Lennon, Madeleine, Beau, Grant, Augustine, Vera, Bernadette, Delilah, Brynn, Dawson, Vivian, Henry, Myla, Emilia, Avery, Sutton, Deacon, Briar, and many nieces and nephews.
