AMES, IA - Paul Jeffrey Fiala passed away at his home on June 14, 2018 at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, June 18, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie with Pastor Jim Davis and Pastor Christian Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Township Cemetery, Moorland, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday June 17, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Paul was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on August 6, 1958. He grew up in the rural Gowrie, Iowa area. He graduated from Prairie Community High School, Iowa Central Community College, and Iowa State University. In high school, Paul was an active member of FFA and 4-H. In college, he sang with the Iowa Central Singers and Choir. During his life, Paul farmed in the Moorland, Iowa area, owned and operated Ben's Construction, was a Track Lead when Prairie Meadows first opened, and was a painter for Color, Inc. Paul enjoyed farming, fishing, tractor rides, and tractor pulls. He is remembered most for his friendliness, his sense of humor, and his generosity. Paul is survived by his wife of 35 years, Erin (Bilstad), two sons, Austin (Katie) and Logan (Renee) and 5 grandchildren, Harry, Violet, Talia, Avery, and Beckett. He is also survived by siblings, Alan (Christy), Karen Smit, Tim (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWayne and Edna (Croonquist), brothers Tom and Steve, and brother-in-law Mark Smit. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
