Callender Phyllis M. Jorgensen 96, formerly of Callender, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Delmar Gardens of O Fallon in OFallon, Missouri. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Greg Stano and Pastor Deb Stano officiating. Burial will be at the Callender Cemetery, with Military Flag Presentation by the American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, at the Church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Kristine (George) Goldman of OFallon, MO; daughter-in-law Charlotte Jorgensen of Gowrie; five grandchildren, Geoffrey (Jennefer) Goldman of St. Charles, MO, Andrew Goldman of Troy, MO, Amanda (Sean) Purvines of Thomasboro, IL, Sarah (Jason) Couser of Collins, IA, and Douglas Jorgensen of Ames; along with sister Marilyn Alford of Cedar Rapids; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; son Michael Jorgensen; her parents, Lewis and Mabel Larson; and sisters, Gwendolyn Bailey and Betty Petersen. Phyllis M. Larson Jorgensen was born June 9, 1922 in Callender, Iowa and graduated from Callender High School. She attended Junior College in Fort Dodge and then continued her education at Iowa Lutheran Nursing School in Des Moines, where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. Phyllis enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and served as a lieutenant with the 142nd General Hospital as a nurse. On November 15, 1953 she was united in marriage to Harry C. Jorgensen in Callender. Phyllis worked as a nurse for 25 years for the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge and then Trinity Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 1991. Harry passed away in 1996. Phyllis was an active member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is serving the family.
