Phyllis Marie Harter

January 24, 1929 — December 12, 2017

Phyllis Marie (Molander) Harter, age 88, of Pocahontas, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held December 29, 2017 from 2-4 PM followed by Mass at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas. Phyllis, known by family and friends as "Phil", was born on January 24, 1929 in Humboldt, Iowa. She was the daughter of Wallace and Ida (Brown) Molander. Phyllis attended school in Humboldt where she graduated in 1947. On June 15, 1948, she married Robert Lee Harter and of that union they had four sons--John, Steve, David, and Matthew. Phyllis was a long time member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering at Pocahontas Catholic School. Phyllis always spoke highly of her years volunteering at the school, working in the library, where she made many life-long friends. Phyllis liked to travel and took many trips to Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma to visit her sons and their families and later in life took trips out West to visit her cousins as long as her health allowed. Phyllis loved to recount stories of her past, especially fond memories of her parents, grandparents, and her childhood. Survivors include her sons John of Pocahontas, Iowa, Steve of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Matthew of Battlefield, Missouri; her brother Gary of Coalville, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her son David Lee, her parents Wallace and Ida, her sister Norma Jean Dolan, great-granddaughter Ziley, and her beloved cat, Angel. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family in the care of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.
