Rockwell City Rex Joseph Powers 88, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at Accura HealthCare of Pomeroy. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church until service time. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery. Lunch for family and friends to follow at St. Francis Catholic Church Fellowship Hall. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. The Funeral Mass will be Live Streamed via Palmer & Swank Funeral Home FaceBook Page. Joe is survived by his children, Jack (Diane) Powers of Fort Madison, Mary Susan Powers of Arvada, CO, Patrick (LeAnn) Powers of Eddyville and Lorrie Powers of Council Bluffs; 10 grandchildren, Deborah (Jonathan) Sands of Urbandale, Meghan (Haley) Powers Risdal of Des Moines, Brian Powers of Burlington, Andrew (Shannon) Powers of Cedar Rapids, Angeline Powers of Des Moines, Eion Powers of Des Moines, Cleo Burton of Arvada, CO, Rachel (Tim) Doyle of Memphis, TN, Tanner Powers of Johnston and Alan Powers-Wettestad of Council Bluffs; two great-grandsons, Jackson Edward Evans of Urbandale and Louis Michael Powers of Cedar Rapids and one on the way; his sister, Pauline Walsh of St. Louis, MO; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick C. and Bessie (Thornton) Powers; brother, Kenneth Powers. Rex Joseph Powers was born March 20, 1932 at Rockwell City, Iowa. He graduated from Rockwell City High School with the Class of 1951 and attended Creighton University in Omaha. In 1954, he was united in marriage to Susan Ann Dixon. Joe farmed most of his life in Logan and Center Townships raising crops and livestock until his retirement in 1998. Joe enjoyed watching his grandkids compete in sports, numerous county and state fairs and was a big Cyclone and Hawkeye fan. He was a faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
