Richard C. Harvey, 84, of Somers passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Paula J, Baber Hospice Home. No services are planned at this time. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Richard is survived by his children, Robert Harvey of Somers; Richard (Judy) Harvey of Sioux Falls, SD; Terry (Todd) Thomas of Vail; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Patrick Harvey of Yuma, AZ; and sister, Mary Beth (Gene) Hawkins of Duncan, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Susie (McManus) Harvey; wife, Ruby in 2003; grandson, Jason Jorvig; brothers, Jack; Steve and Robert "Bud" Harvey. Richard Carl Harvey was born October 13, 1932 in Cherokee, Oklahoma. He attended school in Cherokee. Following his education, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict on the destroyer, USS Eversole. In 1955, he received his honorable discharge and enrolled in diesel mechanic school in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. On January 16, 1958, Dick was united in marriage to Ruby Smith. The couple made their home in Enid, Oklahoma until 1966. As a family they moved to Tucson, Arizona and then to Rock Springs, Wyoming while Richard worked as a heavy diesel mechanic for many years. Dick and Ruby eventually settled in Somers, Iowa to be closer to family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
