Richard 'Dick' E. Dean

GOWRIE Richard E. Dean "Dick", 75, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at United Methodist Church, Gowrie with Pastor Susan Rohden officiating. Military rites will be presented by the American Legion Post 431 of Gowrie. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Dick is survived by his wife, Sue, daughter, Brenda (Nathan) Brandes, son, Rick Dean, grandchildren, Chelsey (Glen) Worrel, Anna (Ryan) Cottington, three great-grandchildren, Brantley, Lesley, and Laci. He is also survived by his brother, James (Carol) Dean of McKinney, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ann (Miller) Dean. Richard Edwin Dean was born and raised in the Gowrie area. He graduated from Prairie View High School in 1963. After graduation he was inducted into the United States Army during the summer of 1965. He served a tour in Vietnam. On October 28, 1967 he was united in marriage to Sue Schultz. He worked at his dads dealership, Dean Auto, which he later took over until 1986. He later owned and operated Dicks Trikes and Body Shop. Dick was an active member of the American Legion Peterson Post #431, where he served many terms as commander. He was also a member of the America Legion Riders Des Moines Post #731, he served on the Gowrie Fire Department, was a lifelong member of the Gowrie Golf Course, and a member of Gowrie UMC. Many would remember Dick announcing at the Gowrie 4th of July events, from the demolition derby to the parade. He spent many years fishing with good friends on the Crash Classic. His love for his country, family, friends, and Gowrie was evident to all who knew him. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
