Rockwell City – Richard A. Walters 79, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral Services have been rescheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Rockwell City, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Air Force Honor Guard and  Amvets Post #41 of Rockwell City.  Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Dick is survived by his wife Theresa; his children, Richard Jr. (Linda) Walters of Arkansas, Rodney (Darci) Walters of Rockwell City, Randy (Tae) Walters of Tokyo, Japan, Robert Walters of Rockwell City, Jodi Walters of Rockwell City, James (Maria) Walters of Des Moines; adopted daughter Amanda (Ted) Kuiper of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Linda, Mary, Nina, and Bonnie; 3 brothers, Mike, Steve, and Dennis; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Joyce (Kenny) Walters.


Richard Allen Walters was born October 27, 1944 at LeMars, Iowa. Dick graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School and attended Buena Vista University. He served eight years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1972, he was united in marriage to Theresa Stoos. Dick worked 7 years for the Department of Human Services and completed his working career with 23 years for the Department of Corrections. Dick has enjoyed retirement life since 2002. In 2010, Dick was honored as the Rockwell City Rotary Outstanding Citizen for his years of community service. Dick was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City Rotary Club, Kid’s Kingdom Volunteer, City Park Court Fundraiser, and numerous other activities.
