Richard Joseph Schumacher

Richard (Dick) Joseph Schumacher, 74 of New Virginia, Iowa passed Wednesday December 14th, 2022 in his sleep at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday Dec 21st, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday Dec 20th at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Dick was born to Carlisle and Charlotte (McCoy) Schumacher on August 29th, 1948 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1966. He was drafted into the US Army during Vietnam, where he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged. He was employed at Local 177 in Des Moines until his retirement in 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Norma Doyle, Sharyn Trask, brother Gary Schumacher and brother in laws, Charles Doyle, Richard Brighi and Fred Trask. Richard is survived by his brother Robert (Phyllis) Schumacher and Sue Brighi, his three children Molly (Michael) DaCosta of Semmes, Alabama, Shane (Ashton Jellings) Schumacher of Ankeny, and Todd Schumacher of Des Moines. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
