Richard L Cerra

Richard L. Cerra, 86, of Ankeny formerly of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday July 20, 2020 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites provided by the United States Marine Corps and the VFW Post 1856. Richard is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Cerra of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Margaret (Creudson) Cerra and his brothers, Eugene, Joe, John and sisters, Angelina and Palma. Richard was born February 24, 1934 in Omaha, NE. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1958 when he returned to Omaha. On November 18, 1962 he was united in marriage to Dorothy McTigue and the couple made their home in Omaha. They later divorced. In the early 1980's Richard moved to the Fort Dodge area. He worked as a cab driver and later became a mechanic. Richard retired from Custom Feed Blenders after working there for many years. He enjoyed all things mechanical and loved to learn about how things worked. He would often be found at the library looking up just that, how things worked. He had a wonderful sense of humor and liked his routine of going out for coffee and "chatting with the locals". He would share stories of growing up in Omaha in a big family and loved Sunday dinners of spaghetti and meatballs with canned banana peppers from the family garden.
