Richard Leroy Ziems

Richard Ziems, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 2nd in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. all at the funeral home. Richard is survived by his children, Donna Hock and her husband John of Bluffton, SC; Debbie Torgerson and her husband Gary of Wichita, KS; Darrell Ziems of Ankeny; Darice Pamperin and her husband Keith of Clive; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents, Albert and Edna (Warden) Ziems; brother, Don Ziems; and grandson, Erich Hock. Richard Ziems was born March 12, 1928 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School. On September 11, 1948, Richard was united in marriage to Margaret Ellen May. The couple established Ziems Beauty Shoppe in 1953. Richard was also the Webster County Assessor for many years until his retirement. He was a past member of the Golden Kiwanis. He loved biking, being outdoors, hiking, and traveling. Richard was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Parish and enjoyed many Gael sporting activities over the years. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
