Richard Mills Jr.

Richard Mills, Jr., 82, of Otho passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.


A celebration of Richard’s life will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, September 16, 2024, in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.


Richard is survived by his children, Richard Mills III of Fort Dodge, Jennifer (Bryant) Taylor of Bolingbrook, IL, Brandy (Todd) Carver of Fort Dodge, Chris (Shannon) Mills of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Brandon Mills, Bryson Taylor, Jaelynn Taylor, twins, Ashlynn and Madisyn Mills, Connor Carver, and Sydney Carver; great-grandchildren, Saylor Mills-Crimmins and one on the way, Violette Mills; siblings, Sherry (Terry) Flynn of Des Moines, Denny Mills of Sioux City, and sisters-in-law, Linda Mills of Sioux City, and Pat Mills of North Sioux City, SD; and loved by many nieces and nephews.


Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Violette (Moore) Mills, wife, Carol Mills and brother, Jerry Mills.


Richard Laverne Mills, Jr. was born July 8, 1942, in Sioux City. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School. He then attended ISU and transferred to USD. He graduated from USD with a bachelor’s in industrial engineering. On July 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Carol Brown at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Kansas City until moving to Fort Dodge in 1970. He was employed with Dicky Clay Products and then became an owner/operator of Lehigh Clay Products for over 25 years and then a bus driver for the public school system for 20 years. He loved watching NASCAR, taking part in Cruise to the Woods, tinkering in the garage, and most importantly spending time with family.
