Richard S. Heathman, 55, of Fort Dodge passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 21, 2023 at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation for the family will be held prior to Mass. Rick was born on August 4, 1968 in Fort Dodge. He spent his entire life as an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, always cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm. Rick loved following the teams' successes, sharing upcoming schedules, game times and final scores. In addition to his love for his Cubbies and Hawks, Rick found great pleasure in tuning in to the Weather Channel, eagerly anticipating storms and keeping track of forecasts. He always made sure to inform those around him about upcoming severe weather, ensuring everyone was aware, prepared and safe. Rick was also the family's rolodex of information. His impressive memory allowed him to recite birthdays, phone numbers and other important information with numbers without hesitation. Rick was a dear son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be remembered for his kind heart, big hugs and gentle spirit. Rick leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rick is survived by his sister Michelle (Allen) Hefley of Riverside, MO, brother Steve Heathman of Fort Dodge, nephews Mark (Jenna) Hefley of Lincoln, NE, Matt Hefley of Kansas City, MO, Mickey Hefley of Omaha, NE, nieces Megan Hefley of Papillion, NE, Shandel Heathman of Fort Dodge, and many friends, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Loren and Elaine (Peters) Heathman, whom he deeply loved and missed. Grandparents, Bernie and Helen Peters, nephew Ryan Heathman and his adored Bichon Fris, Tasha. In an effort to recognize Rick's volunteered time and monetary offerings, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa in Rick's name.
