Richard A. Zaabel, 77, of Fort Dodge passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 20th at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Colfax Cemetery. A visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Richard is survived by his wife, Viola Zaabel of Fort Dodge; sons, Robert (Stacey) Zaabel of Burnside, Roger (Pamela) Zaabel of Newton, and Randy Zaabel of Clarinda, daughter, Amy (Randy) Wesley of Emmetsburg; step- daughters, Fonda (Steven) Weide of Hampton and Kimberly (Gary) Midland of Faribault, MN; step-sons, Michael (Paula) Meints of Rockwell City and George (Melissa) Meints of Iowa City; 15 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and brothers, David Zaabel of Urbandale and Dennis Zaabel of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virginia (Wiles) Zaabel; step-father, Harold Boothe; and granddaughter, Casey Zaabel. Richard A. Zaabel was born September 9, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended a 1 room school house in Evanston followed by St. Paul Lutheran Schools and later graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1959. Following his education Richard "Strawberry" went to work for the Pepsi Company until his retirement in 2002. From 1965 to 1986 he raised feeder cattle on the farm. He was very involved with F.F. A. and 4-H showing registered Angus. In 1998, he was united in marriage to Viola Meints at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
