Rita A. Pliner

Rita A. Pliner, 92, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Marian Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorland, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery in Moorland. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, with a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 4:30 p.m. & a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. all at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband Laurence "Lefty" of Fort Dodge; daughter, Michelle Monahan of Otho; son, Michael (Mary) Pliner of Bloomington, MN; daughter, Maureen (Mark) Walther of Midlothian, TX; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jo Pliner; parents, Thomas and Annie (McLoughlin) Walsh; brothers, Joseph, Emmett, Clement, and Donald Walsh; sisters, Lilian Pechan, Marie Trusty, Berniece and Margaret Walsh, and Alice Condon; and her great granddaughter, Emily Ann Bennigsdorf. Rita A. Walsh was born on March 11, 1922 in Humboldt County. She attended schools there. Rita graduated from Moorland High School. On October 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Laurence Pliner at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorland. Rita and Laurence farmed and raised their family in Elkhorn Township, until retiring and moving into Fort Dodge in 1986. She was a member of O.L.G.C. in Moorland, Rosary Society in Moorland, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Catholic Daughters of America. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
