Robert Coppinger

Robert E. Coppinger, 82, of Barnum, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the Fonda Specialty Care Center in Fonda. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14th, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Parish Center; directly across parking lot at Corpus Christi Church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Survivors include his sisters, Marianne Weiss of Barnum; and Blanche McMahon of Twin Lakes; sisters-in-law, Liz Coppinger of Fort Dodge and Sharon Coppinger of Moorland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Anna (McMahon) Coppinger; sister, Bernadeen Ledford; brothers, Roger and Danny Coppinger; and his brothers-in-law, Bob McMahon, Dwight Ledford, and Ron Weiss; nephews, James "Jim" Weiss and Terry Coppinger. Robert Eugene Coppinger was born on March 8, 1934, in Fort Dodge. He was raised on the family farm near rural Moorland; attending schools and graduating from Johnson Twp. Consolidated High School in 1952. From 1954 to 1956, Robert served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the farm, and was a grain farmer and custom field sprayer his entire life. Robert was very proud to be a steward to the land. He was a past member of the Clare American Legion. Robert's family would like to say thank you to the staff at Fonda Specialty Care and to St. Croix Hospice of Spencer; for their loving care.
