Robert D. Presler, 84, formerly of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, April 4, 2022. He attended Fort Dodge High School until 1954 when he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Mt McKinley. Upon his honorable discharge in 1958, he returned to Fort Dodge and on December 1, 1963 married Victoria Auten. He worked for National Gypsum for a short time before beginning his 37 year railroad career. He was a conductor for the M&STL railroad, then Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, before retiring in 1995. He was very active in the United Transportation Union and served as the local chairman for many years. He was very passionate in his union duties and enjoyed defending his fellow members. When he wasn't hunting or fishing, you would find him at Tom Thumb drinking coffee with friends. Robert is survived by his sons Bob Jr (Ann) of Earlham, IA and Tom (Tomoko) of Honolulu, HI, granddaughters Abby and Ally Presler and sister Sandra (Chuck) Peterson along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Victoria, parents Ben and Edna, brothers Jack (Virginia) and Duane, sisters Helen (Wes) Fishel and Dorothy (Bob) Russell. A visitation will be 1:00-4:00 pm Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Laufersweiler Funeral Home with a private burial at North Lawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers and memorials, donations can be made to your favorite charity.
