Robert M. Skophammer 88, Fort Dodge, passed peacefully on Sunday August 16, 2015 at the Paula J.Baber Hospice Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22nd at 11 a.m. the First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge with Reverend Andrea Kruashaar officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Guard. Visitation will be Friday, August 21st, from 4-6p.m. at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Robert was born in Albert Lea Minnesota on August 27, 1926 to Grant and Signa (Reeves) Skophammer. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1944. Upon graduation Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army Air-Corp., serving stateside. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon returning to Fort Dodge, he married the love of his life, Velva Von Stein on November 8, 1945. Bob was employed by the George A. Hormel Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1984 after the closing of the plant. For most of his adult life Bob operated his own sign painting business and was a known local artist and a past board member of the Hormel Credit Union. His hobbies were traveling, reading, drawing, and spending precious time with his family and friends. Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Velva....his children John(Jean)Skophammer, Madison Wisconsin; Sandra (David) Altman, Coon Rapids, Iowa; Tom(Karen) Skophammer, Fort Dodge; brothers Bill (Mary) Skophammer, McMinnville Oregon; Roger(Laura, deceased) Skophammer, Bloomington Minnesota; and Mike(Marlene)Skophammer, Tekamah, Nebraska; sister, Patty (Harold) Hanson, Albert Lea, Minnesota. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tracy, Scott, Rachael, Bridget, Austin, Jesse, Grant, Andrea, Jenna and Scott: seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Jack and Jim, one nephew and niece, and one great nephew and great niece. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
