Robert Nordquist

Robert "Bob" V. Nordquist, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away on Monday December 31, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Robert Vernon Nordquist was born on February 10, 1932 to Joe and Irene (Rumme) Nordquist in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1950. Bob enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War from February 15, 1952 until December 3, 1953. In 1955, Bob along with his parents started Nordquist Sports and Marine, Inc. He was united in marriage to Leilani Nelson on September 18, 1955 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple spent 63 years enjoying life together with their boys and family. Bob is survived by his wife, Leilani of Fort Dodge; sons, Kent (Molly) Nordquist of Bella Vista, AR and Ted (Jane) Nordquist of Cape Coral, FL; granddaughters, Sara (Cory Davis) Nordquist-Davis of Omaha, NE; and Kali Nordquist of Robinson, IL; brothers, Jerry (Carol) Nordquist and Jim (Judy) Nordquist; sisters-in-law, Vickey Messerly and Becky (Joe) Riley; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Irene Nordquist; father and mother-in-law, Art and Ruth Nelson; and brother-in-law, Allen Nelson. Bob was a sportsman from the word go. He loved being outdoors. Fishing and hunting were at the top of his list. He spent a great deal of time fishing at the Nordquist family cabin in Trego, WI. The cabin is where Bob's heart was from childhood until death. He and Leilani even spent their honeymoon there. Bob and his wife loved to travel and spent a great deal of time traveling with their family and all had a great time. He spent many years selling sporting goods at the store and listening to hunting and fishing stories from all the customers. The joy in his life was his family. He was proud of them and loved them deeply. He couldn't talk about them often enough. Bob belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 86 years. He will be missed by his wife, family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
