Robert (Bob) Schumacher, 93, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Ackley and Duncombe, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. His final days were spent at home, where he was comforted and celebrated by his family.
Bob was born on February 28, 1930, to Carlisle and Charlotte (McCoy) Schumacher in their family home in Woolstock, IA. He was raised in the Fort Dodge area and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1947. After graduation he worked at Swaney Auto in Fort Dodge. It was during this time that he visited his aunt in Otho and met Phyllis Smith. In Phyllis, Bob found his soulmate and life’s partner. Bob and Phyllis were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Dodge on July 20, 1950. Their marriage was filled with love, prayer, sacrifice, and their children. In 1951, Bob served in Louisiana as an Air Force National Guard administrative clerk during the Korean War. Upon returning to Fort Dodge, Bob worked at Central Auto in Fort Dodge until 1978. The family then moved to Ackley, where he managed Ackley Motor Supply. In 1984, Bob began working for Greenbelt Elevator Company in Cleves, from which he retired in 1992.
Those were his jobs. His greatest work was his family. Bob and Phyllis spent their entire marriage teaching their fifteen children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren what it means to be people of great faith and integrity and love.
