Roberta Becher

Roberta "Bobbie" J. Becher, 74, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Marion Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Snook, officiating. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Survivors include her cousin Cindi Becher of Fort Dodge, and 2nd cousin Travis (Stephanie) Becher of Fort Dodge, and her lifelong teaching friends and students. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marie (Smith) Becher, cousin Larry Becher and 2nd cousin Tiffany Becher. Roberta Jean Becher was born on October 10, 1949, in Fort Dodge. She attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1967. Bobbie then continued her education graduating with a Teaching degree from Wartburg College. For many years she taught grade school at Toddville, IA and later in Alburnett, IA. Roberta made her home in Marion, IA until her retirement in 2005. She then moved to Fort Dodge, but Bobbie continued to stay in touch with teaching friends in the Cedar Rapids area monthly for coffee and fellowship. Once she got tired of her first retirement, she decided to attend La' James International College where she became a teacher once again as a licensed Massage Therapist and Esthetician after graduating from both programs. Bobbie taught at La' James for several years until retiring in 2019 due to ill health. She touched many lives in all her years of teaching. She was everyone's favorite "grandma" figure and never forgot a birthday. Bobbie loved Christmas time; her favorite part about Christmas was giving the most thoughtful present. In her free time she loved shopping, her dogs, reading and Sudoku. She was also a big Hawkeye fan especially women's basketball; Go Hawks! She loved and cared for her family most of all and was an amazing, good soul to anyone that knew her. She will be missed by many. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
