Dayton Rodney W. Peterson 91, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at McGuire Bend Church, near Dayton, with Pastor Allan Redenius officiating. Burial will be at Lost Grove Township Cemetery, near Harcourt at a later date. Rodneys body was deeded to the Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is serving the family. Rodney is survived by his wife Betty; children, Rocksann (Philip) Olson of Iowa City, Janie (Ed) Stevens of Boone, Jon (Lois) Peterson of Dayton, and Randy Peterson of Montezuma; 5 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Fern (Peterson) Peterson; and brother Valdo Gene Peterson. Rodney Willard Peterson was born August 6, 1927 at Gowrie, Iowa. He graduated from Harcourt High School. Rodney served in the United States Army following World War II in 1946. On February 28, 1954 he was united in marriage to Betty Howe at the Dayton Covenant Church. The couple lived in Lanyon, Harcourt and in 1962 established their home in Dayton. Rodney worked as a farm hand and later for Land O Lakes in Fort Dodge for 31 years until his retirement. He was a former Deacon, Trustee, and Usher for the Lanyon Covenant Church until its closing. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union. Rodney worked hard all his life and always tried to follow Gods word. Following retirement he enjoyed wood carving, raising goats, and gardening.
