Roger Doster

Roger Charles Doster, 86, of Moorland, Iowa passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 at Friendship Haven in Ft. Dodge Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8th at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. The services will be livestreamed via the St. Paul Lutheran Church Facebook page. Roger was born on July 22, 1935 to Charles and Rose Carlson Doster at his family farm south of Manson. He attended Manson High School until his grandfather's death and sale of the farm when he was 16. He finished High School at Somers Consolidated School where he played baseball and graduated in 1954. He attended Accounting School in Omaha and achieved his Associate's Degree, and then joined the Marine Corps during the Korean War in January of 1955. He worked at Camp Pendleton as a Secretary and Courier, advanced to Corporal and worked for 12 months in Okinawa doing maintenance and electrical work. After his discharge in 1959, he lived briefly with his family, renewing his acquaintance with Janet Schroeder, before moving to Inglewood, CA and working at Sears. They became engaged over Christmas of 1961, and married on July 7, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knierim, IA. For 2 years, the couple lived in California and then several years in Gowrie and Fort Dodge. In 1967, Roger and Janet built their home in Moorland where they raised their 4 children, Douglas, Angela, David, and Daniel. Roger worked at Farmland Industries, north of Fort Dodge, doing maintenance work for almost 20 years and then worked at Frigidaire near Webster City for another 10 plus years until he retired at 63. He maintained his own electrical business, Doster Electric, for many years, wiring the houses that were built after his in his Moorland subdivision and doing work in the surrounding community. He was an active member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church serving as a lay minister who read scripture and helped with communion during services, participating in the Stephen ministry as well. He kept busy during retirement doing deliveries for a transmission shop in Fort Dodge and for the local AEA. He enjoyed his Ft. Dodge painting club that met at the Senior Center and produced many paintings, some of which were displayed at the Blanden Art Gallery on a rotating exhibit that featured local work. He was very proud of his artwork, and kept a photo album of all his paintings so he could show them to those who couldn't make it to his home. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many concerts and activities, from plays and recitals, to soccer, basketball, baseball and volleyball games. He and his wife were avid softball fans and enjoyed going to cheer on the Dodgers. He mourned the passing of his wife of 59 years, Janet, this past June and was much encouraged by attending softball games this summer and receiving the support of the softball community in that loss. He was thrilled to witness the Dodgers State Championship win just after his 86th birthday in July. In August of 2021, he entered Friendship Haven Assisted Living, moved to the Health Center in November, and with the assistance of Unity Point Hospice Care, passed away on December 17th. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose Doster, his step-brother, Norman Voss and stepmother, Hilda Voss Doster, sister, Joelyn Tederman, sister, Donna Branham, brother, Gary Doster and wife, Janet Schroeder Doster. Survivors include his sister, Carla Larson, of Callender, son Doug and his wife, Sherry, of Wildwood, MO, daughter Angela Ihnen and her husband, Larry, of Cedar Rapids, son David and his wife Theresa of Moorland, and son Dan and his wife Tawnya of Fort Dodge. Grandchildren are Dylan Doster, Sean Doster, Rose Ihnen, Josiah Ihnen, Isaac Ihnen, Tristin Doster, Ellie Doster, Camden Doster and Holden Doster.
