Roland "Connie" Conlon, 88, of Humboldt and formerly of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Humboldt North Care Center surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Martens and Rev. Gene Broughton co-officiating. Burial will be at Our Saviour's Cemetery near Pioneer with Military Rites conducted by the VFW Post 5240 and the American Legion 119. A visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Connie is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Bruce Conlon and wife Mary of Ottumwa; Deb Strachan and husband Chuck of Humboldt; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmet and Florence (Gliem) Conlon; brothers, Duane and Dwight Conlon; great-granddaughter, Daphne Johnson. Roland Thomas Conlon was born April 2, 1926 in Gladbrook, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Moorland. After his education he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until his honorable discharge in 1946. On February 26, 1947, Connie was united in marriage to Betty L. Heun in Mankato, Kansas. The couple first lived in Fort Dodge before establishing their home in Pioneer in 1950. Connie owned and operated Conlon Trucking for many years. He also worked for the Hotsy Company for sixteen years and for a number of years for ADF in Humboldt. He retired in 1991. In 1995, Betty and he moved back to Fort Dodge. Connie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the VFW, and he enjoyed golfing for many years. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
