December 31, 1943 — July 21, 2022

Ronald J. "Ron" Hickey, 78, of Farnhamville, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Celebration of Life will be on Friday July 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA on Friday August 5th at 9:30 AM with Military Rites. Survivors include his daughter Beth Lenning and her 3 children Addison Lenning, Keaton (Amanda Lindstrom) Lenning, and Kaleb Lenning, son-in-law Chris Lenning, stepson Brian (Sherrie) McLoud, Greg (Connie) McLoud, Mark (Maureen) McLoud, stepdaughters Judy Rurup; Deborah (Ray) Prazak, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Hickey, sister Elizabeth Hickey, brother Richard Hickey, grandson Jeremy McLoud, mother Jean Brownlee, mother-in-law Nellie Powell. Ronald John Hickey was born on December 31, 1943, in Omaha, NE. He was raised in rural Farnhamville by his grandparents John and Belle Schoberlein where he attended Cedar Valley Schools graduating in 1962. Ron was later drafted into the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968. He married Marjorie McLoud and on November 8, 1969, and Ron stepped up to raise five stepchildren and their daughter Beth. Together they ran Panther Den, serving lunch auctions for over 30 years from Hickey's Lunch Wagon. For the last few years, the couple operated Friendly Table in Farnhamville with their daughter Beth. Ron was known to love hard and work harder. Anyone who met him would call him a friend after only knowing him a short while. He was happiest in his own element, whether it was building a shed, spending time with his family, going on an adventure with his goats, or watching Netflix with his grand dogs. Supporting his kids and grandkids at sporting events he was always on the sidelines cheering them on. Ron was a straightforward man and demanded little from those around him. He was remarkably simple, generous, and kindest man you could have the privilege of knowing. Ron will be remembered as the guy you could call and chat with or borrow a tool you may have needed. During his life as a contractor, he was always proud of the job he completed. You could go for a ride in the "Aunt Jamima" aka the tool van, and he could take you places he did construction work. Of course, as you rode along, he would wave at every car he met along the way. Beneath the surface he was a simple, and genuine man, determined, and principled. He was just Ron in his signature outfit, bib overalls and a ruler because you never knew when you may need to measure something. We will always remember our time with him whether in Farnhamville or Des Moines. Ron always put his family first and was an excellent provider. We could not talk about him without talking about that which he loved the most, mom - aka the "Harcourt Hornet." As he always said they do not make that model anymore. Dad loved mom as we all witnessed with our own eyes. He has missed her so much the last 6 years and now they are together forever. It is hard to imagine life without him and we will miss him dreadfully. We will all hold on to our memories of him because we all have many that make us smile and cry. "Happy Trails Until We Meet Again" Dad, Papa, Ronnie, Grandpa Buck, and friend. Celebration Of Life Fri, Jul 29, 2022 at 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home 307 South 12th Street Fort Dodge, Iowa 50501
