Russell H. Jondle, 95, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, March 11, 2016, at the Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorland with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Russell Henry Jondle was born January 26, 1921, in Fort Dodge to George and Loretta May Jondle. The family lived on a farm near Otho and Russell attended school in Otho. Russell graduated from Otho High School in 1939. Following graduation he worked on the family farm and at Radio Trade in Fort Dodge. He was united in marriage to Florence Lennon on January 31, 1942. Russell enlisted in the Navy on August 3, 1942. He attended basic training at Great Lakes Naval Academy, Chicago, and on September 10, 1942 was enrolled in Naval Training School (Electrical), Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. Following training he served in the South Pacific during World War II and at the end of his tour was stationed at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he was joined by his wife, Florence. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy on October 8, 1945. Upon his discharge, the couple returned to Iowa and established their home on a farm south of Fort Dodge. The couple farmed until 1971 when they moved to Callender. Russell worked at Case Power and Equipment as Parts Manager from 1971 until his retirement in 1986. Russell was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church of Moorland and served on the Lehigh Valley Telephone Board for many years. Russell had many hobbies and interests including coin collecting, searching for native American artifacts, trapping and fishing and for 26 years went fishing every summer with Florence and family members in Lac Seul, Canada. In later years he also enjoyed gardening. Russell was very proud of his service to his country, his family, and especially of his marriage of 73 years to his wife, Florence. Russell is survived by his eight children and their families: daughters, Kathleen Jensen (Colin); Karen Christensen (Michael); Jane Jondle (Tom Rabbitt); sons, Tom Jondle (Sheila); Jerry Jondle (Alana); Dan Jondle (Kim); Russell "Rusty" Jondle (Chris); Leo Jondle (Gayle); 27 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents, George and Loretta May (Harris) Jondle; brother, Bernard and granddaughter, Alicia Jondle.
