Ruth E. Gleason, 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Simpson Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Laupp, officiating. Entombment will be at Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at First Baptist Church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Survivors include her sister, Grace Smeltzer of Elkhart, IN; step daughter, Barbara (Gleason) Aunger of Greeley, CO; step-son, Phil and his wife Sandy of Tonasket, WA; 4 step grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mabel (Hygema) Ummel; her husband, Arthur Gleason in 1996; sister, Josephine Overhulser, and step-son, Paul Gleason. Ruth Evangeline Ummel was born on February 15, 1931 in Elkhart, IN. She graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1948 in Indiana. Ruth then attended and graduated from Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN. On July 31, 1967 she was united in marriage to Arthur Gleason. While in Elkhart, she worked at Del Rey Industries. She later moved to Fort Dodge, and her first position in Fort Dodge was with Marigold Dairy after which, she worked as the bookkeeper for Jim's Floor Coverings until her retirement. Ruth enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, and collecting antiques. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
