Sheldon E. Snelson

Sheldon E. Snelson, 71, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Port Richey, FL. A Celebration of Life and visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Sheldon is survived by his wife, Nancye of 49 years; daughters, Tracey (Rob) Bartmann-Leek of St. Louis, MO; Monica (Earl) Radke of Fort Dodge; son, Corey (Melody) Snelson of Fort Dodge; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Jeff (Marcia) Snelson of Muskego, WI; Mark (MaryAnn) Snelson of Fremont, NB; and sister, Janene (Larry) Anderson of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sheldon Sr. and Betty Snelson; brothers, Craig and Kirk Snelson. Sheldon E. Snelson was born June 15, 1944 in Fort Pierce, FL. He grew up and attended schools in Des Moines, graduating from Tech High School. Sheldon joined the Navy after graduation and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. He was united in marriage to Nancye Carroll Piper on May 30, 1966 in Richmond, VA. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge after his Navy service. Sheldon continued his education at Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, and obtained a Business Degree. He worked for Brown Supply and was also employed with Utility Equipment Company until his retirement. Sheldon briefly worked part-time for the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center after retiring. Sheldon loved golfing and enjoyed watching old westerns at his home in Florida. Sheldon passed away watching Gunsmoke on T.V. and had his family and hospice at his side after his short battle with cancer. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
