Rockwell City Shirley A. Collins 87, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Bickford of Fort Dodge. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of casket will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, near Lohrville. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Church until service time. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed via the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home Facebook Page. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Peter) Erpelding of Bode, Linda (Dennis) Sukovaty of Manson, and Pam (Allan) Kirsch of Dakota City; daughter-in-law Carol Collins of Lohrville; 9 grandchildren, Brandon (Mary) Donahe, Brianne (Dave) Campbell, Katie (Aaron) Keyser, Kelsey (Dave) Cain, Kolin (Anna) Sukovaty, Jason (Raeann) Kirsch, Jenna (Vick Sambola) Kirsch, Chase Willett, and Mallory Willett; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her honorary sisters from the Red Hat Lady Society. She was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Collins; son Brian; her parents, Edward and Clara (Krebs) Hammen; brothers, Robert, Bernard, and Roland Hammen; and infant brother Paul Hammen. Shirley Ann Hammen was born January 7, 1935 at her home in Jolley, Iowa. She graduated from Jolley High School with the Class of 1953, where she was proud of being a member and key player for the Jolley Blue Jays Basketball team. In 1954, Shirley graduated from Fort Dodge Beauty Academy and opened her shop in Pomeroy. On February 8, 1958 she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Collins at St. Marys Church in Pomeroy. The couple made their home on a farm near Lohrville where Shirley continued operating her beauty shop out of their home. She also helped her husband farm. The couple eventually retired and moved to Rockwell City. Jack passed away in 2017. Shirley was a faithful member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
