Shirley J. Roby

Rockwell City Shirley J. Roby 82, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 unexpectantly at her home. Graveside Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, at the Roby Family Cemetery, south of Rockwell City, with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, is serving the family. Shirley is survived by her sons, Robert (Vicki) Roby, and Michael (Vicki) Roby, all of Rockwell City, and Steven (Donna) Roby of Hancock; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, Jamie (Cory) Ridgely and children, Kaylynn, Jade, and Mya; Justine (Alex) Baker and children, Ellason and Kylon; Michelle (David) Jakeman and children, Trice, Tori, and Trigg; Shaun (Jenny) Roby and children, Breonna, Baylee, and Bryce; Jason Roby; Logan (Samantha Pringle) Stone and children, Brendan, T.J., and Huxleigh; and Aspen Stone and children, Greeley and Boulder; brother Jon (Rhonda) Clark of Rockwell City; sister-in-law Marilyn Black of Davenport; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter Lisa Roby; and parents, Virgil Dean and Helen Gertrude Greve Clark. Shirley Jean Clark Roby was born August 23, 1936 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Rockwell City High School. Shirley was united in marriage to John Roby on December 26, 1952 at the Methodist Parsonage in Rockwell City. The couple farmed the family farm south of Rockwell City. Shirley had worked as a cook at the County Home, a hostess at the Starlite in Fort Dodge, and had worked at the Fort Dodge Hallmark Store. John passed away in 1993. In 1994, Shirley moved into Rockwell City. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and numerous card clubs. Shirley enjoyed traveling, wintering in San Diego, fantasy football, taking trips with her grandchildren, Robys Belgians, and was an avid Hallmark collector.
