Steve J. Cher, 82, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
A Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 10th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM - with Military Rites by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard at 1:45 PM and Prayer Service at 5:00 PM all at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Debbie of Fort Dodge, son David Robertson of Rosevill, CA, son Duane (Lisa) Cher of Schererville, IN, son Phil (Julie) Cher of Portage, IN, grandsons Tyler and Zachary Cher, and his brother Robert Cher of Pelzer, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Anna (Egyed) Cher, and his sister-in-law Sandy Cher.
Steve James Cher was born on October 9, 1942, in Hammond, IN. He was raised and educated in northwest Indiana. When he was 17 he enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years until his honorable discharge. Steve worked as crane operator for Lasalle Steel for a number of years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Lake Hills, IN Fire Department. In 1994, he was united in marriage to Debbie Nielsen and the couple made their home in Pelzer, SC. In 2007, the couple moved to Fort Dodge. Steve loved to fish, play pool, dance and sing karaoke. He was always proud of his service to his country.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family .
