Svana O. Lamb passed away on February 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Dodge, Iowa at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. A visitation will be one hour prior at the church.
Svana was born Svanfridur Olaf Eriksdottir on January 27, 1928, in Seydisfjorudr, Iceland. She was the daughter of Erik Ingimunderson and Lauretta. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as brothers Gunbjorn, and Sven Erikson and sister Helga Honse. She is survived by brothers Astvaldur and Ingimunder Erikson.
Svana had two children. Her daughter Rosanette lives in Fort Dodge and has two children, sons John and Nick. Nick and his wife Kimberly have three children, Lucas, Sierra, and Owen. Her son Steve and his wife Rebecca have four children, sons Tyler (his wife Casey) and Seaver (his wife Anna) and daughters Logan and Sage. Tyler and Casey have a son Mickey.
Svana's son Steve Williams lives in Hutchinson, Kansas with his wife Rebecca.
She also had four great grandchildren, including Lucas, Sierra, and Owen Lind, and Mickey Williams.
Svana was a member of the Icelandic Olympic team that competed in the European Olympics in Finland in 1947. These games were held as a replacement to the 1940 Olympics, which were canceled, due to World War II.
She came to the United States at the age of 20 and began working as a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray School of Dance in Flint, Mich. She was then transferred to a studio in Des Moines, where she met and later married first husband Ron Williams. The two moved to Burlington, where they managed a studio for a year. They later moved to Corwith, Iowa, where Ron managed his father’s farm for four years. They then moved to Fort Dodge in 1958, and Svana began work at Lillian’s Fashions. She worked there off and on for 13 years and eventually opened Svana’s Import Fashions in 1971. She owned and managed the store for 23 years and retired at the age of 68. She then purchased a second home in Fort Myers, Florida and spent the winters there and the summers back in Fort Dodge.
Svana later married William D. Lamb and were together for 11 years until his death in 1992.
In Lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be left to the Blanden Art Museum in memory of Svana Lamb.
