Thomas Michael Smith

Thomas M. Smith, 69, of Barnum, passed away on January 25, 2022. A Celebration of Tom's life will be held on Friday, February 4th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Survivors include his sons Tommy (Kaia) Smith of Fort Dodge, Nate (Kirby) Smith of Fort Dodge, 3 grandchildren Thomas, Emerie, and Wren Smith, parents Tod and Letha (Cokley) Smith of Dakota City, siblings Larry (Linda) Smith of Pleasant Hill, Denny (Vicky) Smith of Dakota City, Cathy Gaydos of Phoenix, AZ and Rick Smith of Dakota City, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom was preceded in death by his sister Shelly Erhardt, and brother-in-law Jerry Erhardt. Thomas Michael Smith was born on October 27, 1952, in Charles City. He was raised and educated in Nashua, graduating from Nashua High School in 1970. On November 28, 1975, Tom was united in marriage to Sheila Dawson. In December of 1975, they opened and operated the Knoke Corral Bar. The couple were later divorced but remained close friends. Tom lived in Barnum for many years. He worked Giese Construction, American Concrete, and Oldcastle Materials until he retired in 2019. Enjoyed hunting, especially Deer camp at Denny's cabin at Holiday Lake, family fishing trips to Osakis, MN, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and learning new things on YouTube. Tom was one of a kind, he would do anything to help anyone. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
