Thomas Wood, 72, of Duncombe passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Kahl Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Washington Township Cemetery, Duncombe. A visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Thomas is survived by his wife, Annette of Duncombe; children, Randy Wood and his wife Michelle of Duncombe; Lorie McGilligan and her husband Mike of Webster City; Shelly Shepherd and her husband Lannie of Stanhope; six grandchildren, Megan (Peter); Jayson; Miranda (Tyler); Justin; Rihanna; Max; many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Marion (Hurley) Wood; brothers, George Wood Jr.; Duane "Tid" Wood; and Dennis Wood. Thomas Wood was born March 26, 1945 in Fort Dodge. He attended the Fort Dodge Public Schools. On March 26, 1964, he was united in marriage to Annette Born at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. In 1972, the family moved to Duncombe. Tom was a long-time mechanic. He worked at Arland's Automotive for a period of time and was a long-time car mechanic at JC Penny Automotive Center in Fort Dodge. In his later years, he was employed by the county for 15 years and enjoyed taking care of three cemeteries in the Duncombe area. He enjoyed street rods, woodworking, helping his family and just staying busy. Tom's grandkids were his #1. Memorials may be left to discretion of the family.
