Urban "Jimmy" Lawler

Urban "Jimmy" Lawler, 86, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Clare passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 16th at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 AM at Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will take place at St. James Cemetery, Clare, with Military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 6:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Marianne of Fort Dodge, daughter Sharon (Wayne) Holtquist of Cottage Grove, MN, sons Terry (Karen) Lawler of Clare, Mike (Tonya) Lawler of Fort Dodge, Phil (Sara) Lawler of Georgetown, KY, John (Michaele) Lawler of Tea, SD, Matt (Cari) Lawler of Sioux City, and Joe (Melissa) Lawler of Clare, 25 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Kevin Walsh. He was preceded in death by his parents Urban Jerry and Catherine (Mahoney) Lawler, 3 grandchildren, Brian Holtquist, Rachel Lawler and Jack Lawler, brother Kenneth Lawler and sister Mary Ellen Walsh. Urban James Lawler was born on April 5, 1933 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Clare, graduating from St. Matthew's High School in 1951. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until honorable discharge in 1956. On April 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Marianne George at St. Matthew's Church in Clare; where Jimmy served on the finance committee, Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir for many years. The couple made their home on a farm near Clare where he farmed his entire life. Jimmy was member of the Knights of Columbus, past school board member at St. Edmond and was a longtime volunteer on the Clare Fire Department since 1968. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
