Valerian A. Hurlburt, 96 of Lakeville, MN and formerly of Fort Dodge passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Kingley Shores Senior Living Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, April 22, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, IA with Pastor Nicholas Thackery officiating. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Valerian is survived by her children, Kathy (Larry) Mestnik of Colorado Springs, CO, Kevin (Rebecca) Hurlburt of Bellvue, IA, and Keith (Cathy) Hurlburt of Minneapolis; 5 grandchildren, Mike, Michelle, David, Nick and Tyler; 1 great-grandson, Caleb; and sister, Lorraine Rhodes of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Martha (Kressin) Jentz; husband, Eldon Hurlburt in 2015; and brother, James Jentz. Valerian Angeline Jentz was born October 9, 1922 in Fenton, IA. She was raised and educated in Fenton; graduating from Fenton High School in 1940. She then attended Mankato Business College in Minnesota. For several years, Val worked as a bookkeeper for the Fairmont Daily Central. On April 7, 1956 she was united in marriage to Eldon Hurlburt in Fairmont. The couple lived in various locations while Eldon served in the Army. In 1967, upon Eldon's retirement from the ARMY, the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Val had a passion for ballroom dancing especially with her husband. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and family. The couple enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. They were members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Memorials may be left to family discretion.
