Virgil L. Ort Sr., 71, of Fort Dodge, passed away Friday January 10, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Thursday January 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Henderson, pastor St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Virgil is survived by his sons, James Ort of Fort Dodge; Doug Ort of Emmetsburg; Virgil Ort Jr. of Clear Lake; daughters, Annette Morgon of Virginia; Brenda Studer of Fort Dodge; step-son, Tony Hutchinson of Fort Dodge; step-daughters, Michelle Wieberg of Des Moines, IA; Christina Abrams of Tecumseh, OK; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill Daisy of Casper, WY; Hugh Ort of Storm Lake; Paul Ort of Hampton, IA; Rosemary Bruns of Sac City, IA; Shirley Purkapile of Blaine, MN and Sue Marsh of Kalo, IA. Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Margaret (Cafferty) Ort; step-mother, Ella Ort; and his step-father, Clifford Daisy; brother, Lawrence; sisters, Vicki Fowler, Mary Carr, and Roxanne Ort; and his dog and best friend, Zena. Virgil Lewis Ort was born on July 12, 1942 in Lake City, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Lake City. As a young child, he and his family moved to Otho. Virgil has lived in Fort Dodge and Otho most of his life. Virgil was married to Sandy Coleman for a period of time, they later divorced. He later married Judy Billings and the couple later divorced. Virgil was an over the road trucker for over 40 years. Besides owning his own trucking company, Virgil Ort Trucking Co., he worked with many area trucking companies over the years. He was a member of the Lions Club, Otho/Kalo Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, gardening and camping. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
