Wesley Seaver

Dr. Wesley I. Seaver, 87, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Simpson Health Care Center, Friendship Haven. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 24th at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Wesley is survived by his wife, Rose Seaver of Fort Dodge; son, Mitchell (Claudia) Seaver of Ketchikan, AL; daughter, Michelle (Scott) Sanders of Des Moines; step-son, Brian Hanson of Overland Park, KA; step-daughters, Keeley (Steve) Costigan of Los Alamos, New Mexico; Valentina Hanson of Broomfield, CO; 8 grandchildren, Sean Seaver (Danielle Samblanet); Ryan (Umeko) Seaver; Kellen Sanders; Logan Sanders; step-grandchildren, Adele Costigan; Gwen Costigan; Matthew Hanson; Michael Hanson; and sister, Gloria Jean Seaver of Calgary, Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Viola (Johnston) Seaver; wife, Donna Seaver; and sister, Roberta Hart. Dr. Wesley Seaver was born January 24, 1927 in Fort Dodge. Wesley was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1945 during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Wesley was united in marriage to Donna Legg on May 26, 1951 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. The couple moved to Chicago, and Wes attended and graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. They moved back to Fort Dodge in 1954, and Wesley owned and operated his own Optometric Clinic, which later became Central Iowa Eye Care. He retired in 1994, but continued to practice part-time. Donna passed away in 1996, and Wes was united in marriage to Rosetta Hanson on July 5, 1997. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge and enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona. Wes was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fort Dodge Noon Lions and American Legion. He was also a life time member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. Wes was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed archery, and loved playing the harmonica. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
