Wilbert Lewis Jr.,65, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, December 23rd, 2022, at Methodist West Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30th at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife Stephanie Lewis of Fort Dodge, children Keytrick (Monica) Mosley, Jamal Lewis, Tanesha Lewis, stepchildren LaTricia Roby, Levi (Tasha) Gibbs, and Mercedes Gibbs, several grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, siblings Gwenda Naylor, Harold (Claudia) Lewis of Fort Dodge and Brenda Lewis of Des Moines, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert and Mattie (Benson) Lewis, and his brother Steven Earl Lewis. Wilbert Lewis Jr. was born on November 24, 1957, in Meridian, MS. As young child he moved with the family to Fort Dodge where he was raised and educated. At the age of 17, Wilbert enlisted in the U.S. Army serving for 3 years until his honorable discharge in 1974. During that time, he graduated high school from St. Mary's High School in Carson, CO. He later reenlisted with the U.S. Navy serving from 1979 to 1995 as a Boiler Technician. Wilbert worked at Nissan Meat Company as an inspector and Georgia Pacific as panel operator. He also worked as a mechanic in California from 1996 to 2000. On November 29, 2001, he was united in marriage to Stephanie Roby in Des Moines. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. He truly enjoyed fishing, loved playing dominoes, watching westerns, the news, and a little gambling. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
