Rockwell City Wilbur H. Ohlsen 89, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Bickford of Ames in Ames, Iowa. Out of concern for those who knew and loved Wilbur because of the Corona virus (COVID-19), there will be no Church Service. Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Memorials may be left to the Rockwell City Fire Department. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Wilbur is survived by his daughter Pam Sargent and her husband Dan of Ames; two grandchildren, Amy (Corey) Schmidt and Katherine (Brian) Walker, all of Ames; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Sawyer, Penelope, and Ridley Schmidt; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan "Jo"; son Todd Ohlsen; his parents, Harry and Hattie (Alderson) Ohlsen; sister Edna Grove; and brother Paul Ohlsen. Wilbur Harry Ohlsen was born June 15, 1930 at Schaller, Iowa. He graduated from Schaller High School, with the Class of 1948. On July 20, 1952, Wilbur was united in marriage to Joan Meinking at Newell, Iowa. In 1953, Wilbur served in the United States Army until 1955, when he transferred to the Army Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1961. In 1956, they established their home in Rockwell City, where Wilbur sold seed and milled grain until his retirement. Wilbur also drove school bus for over 30 years. Jo passed away in 2014. Wilbur made his home at Sunnyview Independent Living before later moving to Ames to be near his family. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church.
