William A Fletcher

William "Bill" A. Fletcher, 89, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Friendship Haven. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 4th 2017, at 1:00 PM in Friendship Haven's Celebration Center. Reverend David Grindberg will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, November 3rd 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Bill is survived by his sons, Jeff (Tami) Fletcher of Cumming, IA; Clark (Sandy) Fletcher of Fort Dodge; daughter, Kristy (Jon) Niemeyer of Indianola; grandchildren, Brian (Paige Herwig) Fletcher, Tim (Sara Ittelson) Fletcher, Bill Fletcher, Matthew (Christina) White, Megan Fletcher, Emma (Austin) Trabing, Christopher Niemeyer, and Michael Niemeyer; 5 great grandchildren, London White, Solaine White, Sophia White and Olivia White; and Callie Fletcher; siblings, Jack (Dona) Fletcher of Fort Dodge; Donna Petersen of Loveland, CO; Barbara Newsum of Fort Dodge; and Ruth Fletcher of Loveland, CO; plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mabel (Anderson) Fletcher; wife Geri in 2014; his brother, Gill Fletcher and his sister, Lois Saal. William Anderson Fletcher was born on April 12, 1928, in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1946. Bill attended Iowa State Teachers College where he met Geraldine Anne Groff, who later became his wife in 1950. Bill and Geri made their home in Fort Dodge. At the onset of the Korean War, Bill was drafted and he served 2 years with the U.S. Army. After the war Bill returned to Fort Dodge and took a job with Will Construction until opening his own business, Fletcher Cabinet Shop, in 1961. From 1977 until retiring in 2000 he owned and operated Fletcher Wood Products with his son Clark. Bill's community involvement included serving on the boards of Home Inc., the Blanden Art Museum, and the local Salvation Army. He initiated a grassroots effort to locate the Fort Dodge Public Library on the City Square and designed the City Square Gazebo. Bill lived a full and active life. He and Geri were engaged in the church and community. He was an avid golfer, bridge player, gardener, paddler and woodworker. His many creations reveal the artistry Bill incorporated into everything he did . Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
