William B. Courter

Pomeroy William "Bill" B. Courter 64, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 at the Jolley Community United Methodist Church, Jolley, with Pastor Dawn Freese officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Pomeroy. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Bill is survived by his wife Linda; children, Donald (Joanna Law Courter) Courter of San Diego, CA, Brenda (Mark) Mintun of Perry, IA, Belinda (Joseph) Maranowicz of Plainfield, IL, and Becky (Austin) George of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 12 grandchildren; his siblings, Cinda (Brenda Chapman) Courter of Hudson, FL, Cody (Jack) Geick of Pomeroy, Mark (Jeanette) Courter of Urbandale, Eddy Courter of Jolley, and Pauline Lange of Fonda; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald "Dick" L. and Sena (Hanssen) Courter. William Bruce Courter was born February 22, 1954, at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Pomeroy High School with the Class of 1972. Following his education, Bill worked for the Jolley Elevator. On February 23, 1974, he was united in marriage to Linda Ralph. In May of 1980, he took over his fathers farming operation and enjoyed farming the last few years with his brother Ed. Bill was an active member of the Jolley Community United Methodist Church, where he volunteered his time in a variety of roles. He also served on the Corn Belt Power Board of Directors and the Knoke Fire Department and was a Butler Township Trustee. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and was a sports enthusiast. He cherished every moment he was able to spend with his grandchildren and found no greater joy than the love of his family.
