Xavier E. Martin, 80, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 15th at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856. Visitation and time of prayer on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife of 30 years Caroline of Fort Dodge, son Brian (Amy) Martin of Bemidji, MN, stepsons Scott (Melissa) Messerly of Fort Dodge, Joshua Messerly of Los Angeles, CA, stepdaughter Mandy Messerly of Ames, grandchildren Conley, Sidney, Olivia and Drew, sister Veronica Smith of Beaver Creek, OH, his 3 nieces of Beaver Creek, OH. His beloved dogs Gus and Piper. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Mardella (Lippke) Martin, brother-in-law James Smith. Xavier Earl Martin was born on March 25, 1940 in Manson. He was raised and educated there and graduated from Manson High School in 1958. Later that year he enlisted with and served with the U.S. Coast Guard. Following his honorable discharge, he went to work for the Fort Dodge Police Department as Detective from 1966 to 1995. From 1996 to 2006 he worked at Smith Way Motor Express in accounting. On December 22, 1990 he was united in marriage to Caroline Messerly and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Xavier loved taking walks, laying in the sun, his trips to Marco Island, FL in June, fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada and traveling to Las Vegas. He was an Iowa Hawkeye, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
