Zelda Ann Zabel

Zelda A. Zabel, 72, of Fort Dodge formerly of Duncombe passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Her wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. John Sersland officiating. A visitation will be Saturday beginning at 9:00 until the start of the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Colfax Township Cemetery, Vincent. Zelda is survived by her sons, Donald Zabel of Fort Dodge and Rodney Zabel of TX; brother, Larry Carpenter of Dayton; and sisters, Elberta Anschew of KS; Margaret Dutcher of Fort Dodge; Carol June Carpenter of Fort Dodge; Doris Hammond of KS; and Bobbie Jo Blaskey of Lake Field, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Zabel and her parents, Carrel and Ruth Carpenter. Zelda Ann Carpenter was born August 3, 1945. She was born and raised in Lehigh and graduated from Central Webster High School in 1963. From 1964 to 1966 she lived in Fort Dodge and worked at Marson-Rodenborn Glove Factory. On August 27, 1966 she was united in marriage to Roy E. Zabel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vincent. The couple moved to the Duncombe area and farmed for many years. Since 1980 she worked part time at Carrie's Gifts and Crafts, painting porcelain doll heads. In 1991, the couple moved back to Fort Dodge. In 1997, she became employed by Shoppers Supply retiring in 2002. Zelda was a member of Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. She was a former member of the Duncombe Theater Group and the Recreation Department in Duncombe. She helped organize the 4th of July celebrations and was active in many other Duncombe community events. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
